Man United And Erik Ten Hag Exploring Move For A New Goalkeeper In 2023 With Switzerland Goalkeeper Top Priority

According to a report from 90min, Manchester United is considering the signing of Switzerland goalkeeper, Yann Sommer when his contract expires by the end of the season.

Sommer currently plays for Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga. He turns 34 later this month, and United is in talks about a possible move. Sommer can make a deal with another club starting in January when his contract has six months left.

Since last summer, when Sommer was seen as a backup to a first-choice goalkeeper, there has been interesting in the player. 90min knows that this is likely to stay the same because some of the backup options could leave, and a decision is also going to be made about who will be the long-term number one.

United and manager Erik ten Hag has chosen David de Gea as the club’s first choice for the rest of the season, even though the Spaniard’s contract is up next summer.

There have been rumours about De Gea’s place in the team for a while, especially since Ten Hag took over at Old Trafford. However, he is still one of the highest-paid players at the club. Even though United has the option to add another year to De Gea’s contract, it is not likely that he will stick with the terms he has now.

The two sides are working together to figure out what to do next, but there are signs that one of them may leave next summer. Even if De Gea does leave United, he and the team would have been together for 12 years, so it would be nice if they could part ways on good terms.

United has been interested in Diogo Costa, the goalkeeper for Portugal, for a while now. They have watched him play several times this season.

No matter what United decides about De Gea and a new first choice, they need to think about other new goalkeepers because it’s likely that Martin Dubravka will go back to his parent club Newcastle when his loan ends at the end of the season. Dean Henderson, who is on loan at Nottingham Forest, also needs a decision.

90min understands Henderson does not want to go back to United after his loan, even though his loan deal with Forest does not include a buy option. United hopes that his time in Nottingham will help get potential buyers interested in him.
