Erik ten Hag has added sports psychologists to his backroom staff to help players deal with mental problems.
The Dutchman took over as manager of Manchester United in the summer when interim manager Ralf Rangnick left. Since then, he has worked hard to make the team his own, both in terms of staff and players.
The Daily Mail says that the Dutchman has now hired several sports psychologists to help train the players’ minds. They come from the Dutch company Talent Academy Group, with whom he has worked closely since taking over.
The psychologists will be available to meet with players at least twice a week to talk about mental issues and offer to counsel to those who want it. They have already arrived at the club; Rainier Koers, one of the new hires, was at the club’s training camp in Spain.
Ten Hag said that Jadon Sancho wasn’t at that training camp because of his mental health, which is when the appointments were made.
The boss said, “He’s not fit enough. We didn’t see him in the last United games because he wasn’t in good enough shape. We want him to finish it and come back soon, if possible. We want to get him back as soon as possible, but I don’t know when that will happen. He was good in preseason, and he also played well in the league in games against Liverpool, Leicester, and Arsenal. After that, our level went down, and when that happens, you don’t always know why or what’s causing it.
“We’re trying to find out about that right now, and we’re also trying to get him back there. It involves both your body and your mind.”
United will play again on Wednesday night when they play Burnley in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.https://om-firebase-notifications.firebaseapp.com/__/auth/iframe?apiKey=AIzaSyCMBa4cI0AVTR_psnCB_5EfaISZ98ZMefM&appName=%5BDEFAULT%5D&v=6.2.0&usegapi=1&jsh=m%3B%2F_%2Fscs%2Fabc-static%2F_%2Fjs%2Fk%3Dgapi.lb.en.ydLROSGdlBE.O%2Fd%3D1%2Frs%3DAHpOoo_OUY4V-VcsLuRVnUuYVO758FydkA%2Fm%3D__features__#id=I0_1671537117624&_gfid=I0_1671537117624&parent=https%3A%2F%2Fm.hub.opera.com&pfname=&rpctoken=26334962
